A Winner in Retail: Hot Topic, Really (HOTT)

We won’t bother telling you how bad the retail same store sales numbers came in across the board.  But pop culture apparel and merchandise retailer Hop Topic, Inc. (NASDAQ: HOTT) is surging this morning.  At 9:50 this stock is up 15% at $6.95 on well over 300,000 shares.  An average day is 750,000 shares and we’d expect that to happen within the first 60 to 90 minutes.

This one wasn’t just “less bad” compared to estimates.  They posted same store sales gains of +8.3%.  They even raised their guidance.  Someone forgot to tell these guys that there is a recession.
