Price/Volume Spike: Stem Cell Stocks (GERN, STEM)

We are seeing a sharp rise in stem cell stocks right after the open today.  Geron Corporation (NASDAQ: GERN) said that its scientists and collaborators have demonstrated that a small molecule telomerase activator called TAT2 enhances the antiviral function of immune cells from HIV+ donors.    Gern shares were up much more out of the chute at the open, but shares are still up 8% at $4.33 at 9:40 AM EST.

StemCells Inc. (NASDAQ: STEM) is also up, and even more.  Its stock is up 18% at $2.07 at the same time.

We’d also note that this sector has been touted over and over as a winner under an Obama administration.
