PRICE/VOLUME SURGE: Coal (FCL, ANR, KOL, PCX, ACI)

8:50 AM EST… Foundation Coal Holdings Inc. (NYSE: FCL) is being acquired by Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (NYS:  ANR) for 1.084 ANR shares of ANR.  FULL DETAILS at 24/7 Wall Street.  FCL up 31% at $30.55; ANR shares up 2% at $29.55. FCL 52-week range is $8.53-$89.72. ANR 52-week range for Alpha is $13.93-$119.30.  Market Vectors Coal ETF (NYSE:KOL) was indicated up 10% oroginally this morning but looks up only about 5% at $22.70 in thin volume trading.

Elsewhere Pre-Market: Patriot Coal Corporation (NYSE: PCX) is up 7% at $9.47 and Arch Coal (NYSE: ACI) is up 7% at $19.08.
