PREMARKET ALERT: Merck (MRK, SGP)

Merck & Co. (NYSE: MRK) shares have not opened in the premarket, but it is a stock to watch for volume upside. The company posted EPS of 83 cents, 6cents better than analyst expectations. Merck reaffirmed its guidance for fiscal 2009. The company said its previously announced merger with Schering-Plough (NYSE: SGP) is progressing as planned, and should close in the fourth quarter. — Mike Tarsala
