Options Alert in Applied Materials (AMAT)

Applied Materials Inc. (NASDAQ: AMAT) has only just now crossed its average daily volume at 3:40 PM EST.  We have seen 21.9 million shares trade versus and average daily volume of 21.8 million shares of stock.  The gain is 0.7% at $13.19, so that sounds only normal.  BUt Joe Kunkle of OptionsHawk.com sent an alert to us today calling out the strong call options trading activity.  The OCT-2009 $13.00 CALLS saw all the action with some 28,282 contracts trading versus an open interest of only 17,124 contracts.  This is an additional 2.8 million shares on a fully leveraged basis if you translate options to stocks.  With these optiosn expiring next Friday, the hope here is likely that Intel is going to raise its capital spending projections for 2010 with its earnings next week.  Stay tuned.  JON OGG
