USEC Options Alert… Obama-Nuclear Stock (USU)

There has been some increased trading activity in the stock of USEC Inc. (NYSE: USU). This is based upon more belief that the loan guarantee denied last Summer may be back on because the Obama administration has talked about adding nuclear power and more loan guarantees tripling to possibly $54 billion in the 2011 budget that is supposed to be submitted Monday. The activity is taking place in the APRIL-2010 $5.00 CALLS and the $6.00 CALLS. So far we have seen 1,916 contracts trade versus an open interest of 3,824 contracts in the $5-strike and 1,654 contracts traded versus an open interest of 4,883 contracts in the $6-strike.

USEC shares are up 8% at $3.99 on 2.8 million shares as of 1:20 PM EST. The 52-week trading range is $3.22 to $7.24 and the average daily volume is now only 1.53 million shares.

USEC Inc. (NYSE: USU) is still fairly thin volume considering the news, but we would expect it to be among the mors active issues after the Department of Energy said it would delay its final decision to give the company time to meet test and financial goals over its government loan guarantee. This is not a resolution, but does mean it still has hope. As of 8:28 AM EST we have seen 22,000 shares trade hands and the last trade was $4.91. Average volume is around 4 million shares, and we would expect that to be hit in the first hour and a half of trading. -JON OGG

USEC Inc. (NYSE: USU) is looking up considerably, although this is not a resolution to its woes. There were reports that the Department of Energy said it would delay its final decision to give the company time to meet test and financial goals over its government loan guarantee. As of 6:00 PM EST we have seen some 90,000 shares trade hands since the closing bell, but the price is up 10% at $4.72 on right at 90,000 shares. Put this one on your watch lists because if there is a belief on Wednesday that the DOE will likely roll over and approve a loan guarantee, then this one could be off to the races….-JON OGG

USEC Inc. (NYSE: USU) is getting hammered on exponential volume after the US DOE declined its long-pending loan guarantee application. Shares are down 45% at $3.40 at 9:44 AM EST and we have already seen over 8 million shares trade hands. Price/Volume Alert: USEC on Guidance & Election (USU)

USEC Inc. (NYSE: USU) is gapping lower this morning. The company announced yesterday that an unexpected decline in sales at its separated work unit was going to cause it to miss annual projections previously offered. It now sees net income at 425 to 440 million rather than prior projections of $25 to $45 million. It put revenues at $1.6 billion and now sees its separated work unit revenues at $1.2 billion ($100M under forecasts).

There is one other issue greater than the company’s guidance. That is the election. This is a nuclear stock and obama has been anti-nuke in his campaigning. We have told our subscribers that this is actually a misleading reference as far as this company is concerned today and tomorrow, although the risk is that there could be pushback given on future plants which have not yet been approved.

Shares gapped down and are down over 6% at $4.18 at 9>32 AM on more than 100,000 shares. This one trades over 1.8 million shares, and we’d expect the guidance and the election results to carry the volume above normal today.
